More RAM helps when your workload genuinely needs it: many browser tabs, large creative projects, virtual machines or development tools. It cannot make a slow processor faster, and adding memory does not fix a failing drive or poor software.

Check actual memory pressure before upgrading. Close a leaking application, reduce unnecessary startup programs and keep enough free storage for the operating system. On laptops, verify whether memory is replaceable before buying.
